Winning the Grade 3 Championship was a major goal for the band this season. After the cancellation of the 2022 championships due to Covid restrictions, the band set its sights on 2023, under Pipe Major Warren Aitken and Drum Sergeant Neil Mogey. With 32 players, the band made quite an impact at the championships held on North Hagley Park in Christchurch. The weather was kind and the band presented our MSR (Set) and Street March on Friday with the Medley on Saturday. It was almost a clean sweep – the band won seven of the eight trophies on offer. We were first in the Set and Medley, winning those trophies plus Champion Band and Display. The drum corps topped Grade 3, and the Bass/Tenor section was awarded the trophy for Balance and Flourishing over Grades 3, 4A and 4B. Wearing our fully revamped uniform for the first time, the band also won the trophy for Dress.
The win at the New Zealand and South Pacific Pipe Band Championships capped a season in which the band won every contest we attended.
